About North Andros
The untouched heart of Andros Island and one of the Caribbean's last true wilderness destinations.
Geography & Nature
North Andros is the largest of the three main sections of Andros Island, which is itself the largest island in the Bahamas and the fifth largest in the Caribbean. Despite its size, North Andros remains remarkably undeveloped, with vast wilderness areas and a population of only a few thousand residents.
The island is protected by the third-largest barrier reef in the world, the Andros Barrier Reef, which runs for 140 miles along the eastern shore. Beyond the reef lies the Tongue of the Ocean, a deep ocean trench that plunges to over 6,000 feet.

Wildlife & Conservation
North Andros is home to incredible biodiversity both above and below water. The extensive mangrove forests, pine forests, and wetlands provide habitat for numerous bird species, including the endangered Bahama Parrot and West Indian Flamingo.
The marine environment is equally rich, with pristine coral reefs, seagrass beds, and the famous bonefishing flats that attract anglers from around the world. The blue holes contain unique cave systems with endemic species found nowhere else on Earth.
Much of North Andros is protected as part of various national parks and conservation areas, ensuring this natural paradise remains pristine for future generations.
Culture & Community
The people of North Andros maintain strong connections to traditional Bahamian culture. Small settlements dot the coastline, each with its own character and history. Residents are known for their warmth, hospitality, and deep knowledge of the land and sea.
Traditional activities like bonefishing, sponging, and boat building continue today alongside modern tourism. The annual Crab Fest celebrates local culture with food, music, and Junkanoo performances.
